In 1949, William Edward “Tubby” Winans and his wife, Bobby, moved to Maysville from Pauls Valley, Oklahoma with a desire and commitment to offer quality funeral services to the citizens of Maysville and the surrounding area.
Tubby and Bobby owned and operated Winans Funeral Home for twenty-two years until Tubby’s death in 1971. In January of 1972 Winans Funeral Home was then purchased by their son-in-law, John, and daughter, Bobby Lou. John was a graduate of the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science.
On October 1, 2015, forty-three years after purchasing Winans Funeral Home, John and Bobby Lou decided to retire. Winans Funeral Home was purchased by their oldest son, John Winans Williams and his wife Theresa.
December 19, 2015 a fire began in the flue of a fireplace in the family’s den. The fire consumed the den, chapel, business offices, selection room and preparation room of the funeral home. Winans Funeral Home was a total loss.
Beginning January 1, 2016, plans began to rebuild Winans Funeral Home on the location it has stood for 70 years. Though the time dealing with fire investigation, insurance adjusters, planning and building of the new Winans Funeral Home has, at times, been a true test of faith and patience, we are proud to have been able to open our new establishment in January of 2019.
We are now able to offer an arrangement conference room for the privacy of family’s planning funeral arrangements. In addition to our selection room, we now have two visitation rooms to serve our families. Our Chapel has seating for one hundred with capabilities for overflow seating when needed. Our office space has been expanded to serve our families more effectively. Our staff is very experienced in questions concerning Social Security, Veterans Benefits, Pre-Need Planning and Pre-Need Burial Insurance. We can also be of assistance in designing the perfect memorial monument for your loved one.
Since 1949 many things have changed in the community of Maysville and surrounding areas, however, the desire and commitment of Winans Funeral Home to offer quality and compassionate funeral services has remained unchanged.
