Ruby Adele Scott

August 14, 1932 — January 17, 2020

Ruby Adele Scott passed away quietly on January 17, 2020 in Bryan County, Oklahoma. She was born Ruby Adele Gabbard on August 14, 1932 in Wayne, Oklahoma, to Henry and Lucy Gabbard. Ruby married her high school sweetheart Leon Scott on August 21, 1953. At the time of Leon’s passing in 2017, they had celebrated 64 years together.

As a young girl growing up on her parent’s share crop farm, she was the tomboy of the family and was very involved helping her father with farm duties. She graduated from Maysville High School in 1950. Ruby was a star on the girls’ basketball team where she was well liked and respected for her aggressive play and the ability to score outside of the key. As a young woman she loved to water ski and camp with family at Lake Texoma. She enjoyed reading and found her talent for painting while continuing her love of singing and yodeling. Her true passion of genealogy research encompassed much of her retirement days. She loved to cook farm style, all from scratch.
Ruby was a vibrant individual who believed in hard work, strong character, good manners, fine taste, and enjoying life. She loved her family and believed in them strongly.

In 1951, she began her career in banking while at Maysville. She continued her banking career with moves to Shawnee, Jones and Madill. In 1969, she transferred to First National Bank in Durant, retiring as bank branch manager in 1990. She cherished her time with friends and colleagues while at FNB in Durant and spent many hours reminiscing about the joy her work brought to her life.

Ruby is survived by her two children, son Mike Scott and wife Melissa, and daughter Regina (Scott) Cowin and husband Michael. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren Brady Scott, Edie (Scott) Cowan, and Adam Skeith. She will be joined in Heaven by her husband Leon, grandson Adam, her parents Henry and Lucy Gabbard, and sisters Iva Moore, Alice Reese, and June Parker.
Ruby is deeply loved and will be remembered by her children and grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

We all thank you for your many prayers and condolences.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Brady Scott, Mike Scott, Bud Bodkin, Stanley Reese, Ronnie Scott, Michael Cowin, and Darrin Scott.
