Winford Claud Coon

Winford Claud Coon was born on December 17, 1938, in Rush Springs, Oklahoma to Claud and Helen (Childress) Coon. He passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025, in Edmond, Oklahoma at the age of 86 years.

Winford was a graduate of Bradley High School. He was a Navy veteran proudly serving from 1956 to 1959. Winford married Joanne Hays on January 21, 1965. She preceded him in death in 2005. The couple had four children: Chris, David, Shane, and Shalene; along with “daughter #2”, Chesica Flint. Winford was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was proud of his family; they meant the world to him.

Winford was a retired driller for the oilfield. The oilfield was a big part of his life. Not only was it way to support his family but, it was there that he made lifelong friends. Winford was a big supporter of the 2nd Amendment, the right to keep and bear arms. Winford enjoyed traveling. He had a companion in way of 33 year old parrot, Simba.

Winford will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

Winford is survived by: daughter: Shalene Harris of Grand Junction, Colorado; sons: Chris Coon of Norman, Oklahoma and David Fox-Coon; sisters: Pat Mundt, Virginia Ferguson, Merlene Pearriman, Claudine Ingram, and Colleen Keaton; grandchildren: Reagan Harris, Jordyn Harris, Kayla Farmer, Kyle Oliver, Caitlin Oliver, and Joshua Horton; great grandchildren: Conner Fox-Coon, Jasper Fox-Coon, Rebecca Fox-Coon, and Atlas Oliver; and daughter #2, Chesica Flint and extra granddaughter, Trinity Wright of Cedaredge, Colorado.

Winford is preceded in death by: wife, Joanne Coon; parents, Claud and Helen Coon; son, Shane Coon; brother, Oscar Coon; and step-daughter, Annie Horton.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Winans Funeral Home Chapel in Maysville, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home in Maysville, Oklahoma. Words of comfort may be sent to the family on this website.
