William “Bill” Henry Henson II was born November 9, 1956 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and passed away in New Orleans, Louisiana on October 12, 2021 surrounded by loved ones.
Bill was the eldest son of H. Pat Henson and Peggy Henson. Bill attended Norman High School and graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1979. He then attended the University of Pennsylvania Law School from which he graduated in 1982. Following graduation from law school, Bill returned to Oklahoma to practice law with the Oklahoma City law firm of McAfee & Taft where he specialized in banking law.
During the economic downturn in Oklahoma in the mid-1980s, Bill transitioned out of his law practice and into management of his family’s banking business in Maysville, Oklahoma. The operation became Farmers & Merchants Bank of Maysville, Oklahoma and Peoples State Bank of Blair, Oklahoma with a branch location in Lawton, Oklahoma.
In the late 1980s Bill moved to New Orleans with his wife Dee Ann and their two children Hilary and Henry. They made their home in the historic French Quarter. During his time in New Orleans, Bill continued to manage his Oklahoma banks and became involved as a director in Olney Bancshares of Texas which had several banking locations in West Texas.
In 2011, Bill married Gwen Sommers Cabo and they continued to live in the French Quarter. Bill and Gwen were friendly faces in the Quarter and known by many as staples in the area. Bill and Gwen always enjoyed having guests in New Orleans, showing warmth and hospitality at all times. Bill was widely known for wearing shorts as often as possible, refusing to wear long pants unless the restaurant code required it.
After their marriage, Bill and Gwen spent time in both New Orleans and La Jolla, California, where Gwen’s daughter, Sophia, attended school.
Bill is survived by his wife Gwen of the home, his daughter, Hilary Greer Henson, his son, William Henry Henson III, his stepdaughter, Sophia Cabo, his brothers Bret Henson and Bart Henson, and numerous cousins and countless friends.
Bill's services will be streamed Live on Facebook.
