Wesley Leeroy Arter, 80, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026. He was born on August 14, 1945, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, to Alvin and Mary Arter.
Wesley graduated from Lindsay High School with the Class of 1963. He spent his career working throughout Oklahoma in the oil patch, where he earned a reputation for his hard work, skill, and resourcefulness. Those who knew him often described him as a “jack of all trades and a master of several.” Whether fixing something, building something, or lending a helping hand, Wesley was always willing to use his talents to serve his family, friends, and neighbors.
On November 12, 1965, Wesley married the love of his life, Janet Winn. Together they built a loving family that remained the center of his life.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Janet Arter; his sons, Darryl Arter and wife Carrie of Lindsay, Oklahoma, Neil Arter and wife Joni of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Jimmy Arter and wife Holly of Edmond, Oklahoma. He also leaves behind eight beloved grandchildren: Taylor Arter of Newcastle, Oklahoma; Kaleb Arter of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Paige Arter of Edmond, Oklahoma; Kylie Clerc and husband Michael of Norman, Oklahoma; Gina Boyd and husband Jaxton of Edmond, Oklahoma; Samantha Arter of Edmond, Oklahoma; Jane Arter of Edmond, Oklahoma; and Max Arter of Edmond, Oklahoma.
Wesley was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Mary Arter, and his brother, Malvin Arter.
He is also survived by his brother, Travis Arter, as well as many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Wesley will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his generous heart, his willingness to help anyone in need, and the deep love he had for his family. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the example he set for those who knew and loved him.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 11, 2026, at The Church of Christ in Blanchard, Oklahoma. Burial to follow at Purdy Cemetery under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home in Maysville, Oklahoma. Words of comfort may be sent to the family on this website.
