Sylvia Mae Pender, born on November 23, 1937, in Antlers, Oklahoma. She departed this life on August 16, 2026, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 88. Her passing marks the close of a long and loving journey, and her memory will forever remain cherished by those fortunate enough to have known her.

Sylvia was the daughter of Willie Thomas and Naomi (Kitchens) Thomas and was raised by George and Lilly Kitchens, all of whom preceded her in death. She brought warmth and dedication to every aspect of her life, especially when it came to her children. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Renee' Bounds, and her loving sons, Darryl Pender and Sammy Pender. In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by two dear sons, Arlen Pender and Dennis Pender.

Throughout her life, Sylvia was recognized as a jack of all trades—her practical wisdom and can-do spirit made her an invaluable presence within her home. Professionally, she dedicated her skills to serving as a cook at Pauls Valley State School, where her work was marked by diligence and the joy she brought to those around her.

Sylvia found tremendous happiness in her hobbies and interests. She took great pleasure in gardening, nurturing flowers and plants with a gentle touch. Her talents extended to sewing and ceramics, crafts through which she expressed her unique personality and artistry. Animals were another source of delight for Sylvia, and she lovingly raised dogs, fostering bonds of companionship and care.

Above all, her greatest love was reserved for her family, whose well-being and happiness were always at the heart of her endeavors.

Those who knew Sylvia remember her as someone who approached life with kindness, resilience, and devotion. Her legacy continues in the lives of her surviving family and in the many memories she leaves behind. While she will be missed dearly, Sylvia Mae Pender's spirit, generosity, and enduring love will not be forgotten.

Sylvia is survived by: children, Darryl Pender and Kaye of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, Sammy Pender and Lisa of Purcell, Oklahoma, and Renee Bounds of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and grandchildren, Ashlee Hastings of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Tre Montgomery of Midwest City, Oklahoma, Gabriel Montgomery of Midwest City, Oklahoma, Jamie and Jarred Childers of Moore, Oklahoma, Jacob Pender of Purcell, Oklahoma, Rachel and Colby Pender of Maine, and Sarah Pender

Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Naomi Thomas, and also George and Lily Kitchens; 6 brothers; 5 sisters; sons, Arlen Pender and Dennis Pender; and grandson, Jason Pender.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., September 19, 2026, at the Antlers Cemetery in Antlers, Oklahoma. 

Services for cremation are under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home in Maysville, Oklahoma. Words of comfort may be sent to the family on this website.
