Roy Kenneth Somers

Roy Kenneth Somers was born on September 30, 1932, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Claud and Eliza (McGill) Somers. He passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 92 years.

Roy graduated from Pauls Valley High School and honorably served in the Army. Upon his return he married the love of his life, Marilyn Turner, on November 27, 1957. In 1972 the family moved to Lindsay where they would reside for the last 50 plus years. Roy was a retired truck driver but continued staying busy tending to the cattle.

Roy was no stranger to hard work, and he taught his sons that same trait. He couldn’t sit idly by when there was work to be done; he was always in the middle of whatever was going on. He was fondly given the nickname “Quality Control” because if he couldn’t help, he would instruct you on the way he thought things should be done. Roy was also a big storyteller, and he enjoyed sharing his stories with his family.

Roy enjoyed being outdoors and in his younger days he enjoyed going to the lake and fishing. Roy spent countless hours tending to the cattle, but he wouldn’t have it any other way, he enjoyed doing it.

Roy will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Roy is survived by: sons, Mike K. Somers and Laura of Lindsay, Oklahoma and Darrell Somers and Charity of Lindsay, Oklahoma; bother, Donnell Somers of Wynnewood, Oklahoma; sisters: Audrey Harell of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Lou Carlton of Wynnewood, Oklahoma, and Barbara Ann Johnson and David of Wynnewood, Oklahoma; grandchildren: Amy Butcher and Lee, Cody Somers and Abigail, Cory Somers, Joseph Somers, and Brandon Robinson; great grandchildren; Taegan Butcher, Korben Butcher, Lincoln Roy Somers, Lucas Robinson, and Liam Robinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Roy is preceded in death by: parents, Claud and Eliza Somers; loving wife, Marilyn Somers; brothers: Frank Somers and Claudie Ray Somers; sisters: Betty Crabtree and Louise Botkin; and grandson, Michael Kenneth Somers.

Friends and Family Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Friday, August 29, 2025, at Winans Funeral Home in Maysville, Oklahoma.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Erin Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Mike Ridgway officiating. Burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home in Maysville, Oklahoma. Words of comfort may be sent to the family on this website.
