Phyllis Ann Hayes

November 2, 1936 — July 26, 2022

Phyllis Ann Hayes, age 85, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2022, in Lindsay, OK. She was born November 2, 1936, in Elmore City, OK to Martha Anna Nesmith Tomlinson and William Trig Tomlinson. She attended school at Elmore City where she was salutatorian of her graduating class. She also attended East Central University for one year. Phyllis was a homemaker for the majority of her life, but she also worked as the secretary at the First Christian Church in Lindsay and worked in the insurance industry for Clements Insurance until her retirement. She married Curtis Dwight Hayes on December 7, 1957, in Gainesville, TX. They shared a wonderful life together for 62 years in Lindsay, OK, where they raised four children: Janet, Lisa, Connie, and Curt.

Phyllis enjoyed a simple, no-frills way of life. She enjoyed cooking and always had lunch and dinner ready for Curtis when he came in from work or farming. Her family looked forward to Thanksgiving each year because her dressing was the very best. She also loved reading, enjoyed going to the library, and always had a stack of books lined up to read. She enjoyed traveling with Curtis and was always up for whatever adventure he took her on. More than any of this, though, Phyllis adored her family. She supported her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids in everything they did. She kept drawers full of newspaper clippings with all of their accomplishments noted on them. She had the best laugh and the sweetest spirit with just enough sass to keep her family in line. Her absence is already felt, and we will miss her immensely. She was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Lindsay, OK.

Phyllis is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by her children, Janet Block and husband Tommy, Lisa Taylor and husband David, Connie Badertscher and husband Tommy, and Curt Hayes and wife Gina. Granny will also be remembered by her grandchildren, Brianne Bray and husband Jeff, Shelby Linford and husband Mike, Erin Mainka and husband Justin, Tyler Block, Cole Hayes, Parker Hayes, Steven Block, and Gregory Block. She was adored by her great-grandchildren, Easton Bray, Annaston Mainka, and Knox Linford. She is survived by one brother, Geary Tomlinson; two nephews, Trig Tomlinson and Brant Tomlinson; and one niece, Stacey Johnson. She is also survived by several sisters and brothers-in-law, whom she thought the world of.

Phyllis was preceded in death by the love of her life, Curtis Hayes; her parents, Trig and Anna Tomlinson; her father and mother-in-law, Jake and Gladys Hayes; her brother, Bill Tomlinson and his wife Pat; her sister, Judith Johnson; and three nephews, Travis and Todd Tomlinson, and Greg Johnson.
