The youngest of four, Wes and Helen George welcomed their son Joe-e into the world on New Year’s Day 1962. Joe-e was born in Oklahoma City and was raised in Lindsay, Oklahoma. It wasn’t long before he discovered a love for two wheels and a wide-open highway to somewhere new. He loved the wind in his hair and the bugs in his teeth. He would always say, “No news is good news, don’t worry about me”.
After spending some time rambling from place to place and working with different jobs, Joe-e eventually decided to settle down and he found his calling in operating heavy equipment. This career would take him everywhere from Mississippi, South Dakota, New Mexico, Oklahoma, to Texas and who remembers where else. He would always say, “It’s not work, I feel like a kid in a sand box with my tonka toys and I love it”.
He may not have had children of his own, but that is not to say he didn’t have any kids. First Pops as he was called by his “kids” welcomed Lexi Kerr into his home, then Dorothy and Justin Wisniewski. He gave up a lot to make sure the “kids” had what they needed and wanted; from taking Lexi to all her cheer practices and competitions, making sure the kids had driver’s licenses, cars to drive, graduating high school and a roof over their heads, and food to eat. Added to his “kids” list was Zane and Miguel. Joe-e was always a safe haven for his “kids” and all their friends.
Joe-e touched the lives of everyone around him with his kindness, generosity, happy go lucky attitude and unwavering dedication to his family and coworkers. His “kids” were everything to him. He will be greatly missed.
Joe-e was preceded in death: by his parents, Wesley George and Helen Slaton; paternal grandparents, Joe and Gladys George; and maternal grandparents, Kelsey and Pearl Bagley. He is survived by: his “kids”: Lexi and Zane, Dorothy Wisniewski, and Justin Wisniewski of the home; sister, Susan Wilkins Turner and husband Noel of Lindsay; brothers: Chris George and Janet of Enos and Wesley George of Lindsay; stepmother, Vinita George of Lindsay; stepsister, Nita Versar and Joe of Minco; stepbrother, Kent Owens of Stroud; Brenda Baird of Missouri; not to mention numerous nephews, nieces, aunts and cousins.
