John Truman Williams, Jr.

John Truman Williams, Jr. passed away peacefully on September 16, 2026, in Norman, Oklahoma. He was born on August 17, 1946, in Houston, Texas. As family and friends remember his life, they give thanks to God for a man whose days were marked by faith, service, and a deep love for the people the Lord placed in his care.

John’s life was rooted in Christian ministry. He served as a pastor and loved his churches and the people he served. Among those ministries, Grace Baptist Church in Houston, Texas held a special place, where he served as Associate Pastor. His calling was not simply a position, but a testimony of devotion to the Lord and to His people. Those who knew him could see in his life the heart of a shepherd, one who cared deeply for his congregation and sought to serve with faithfulness.

He also served his country in the Army from 1969 to 1971. That season of service stood as another expression of duty and commitment in his life. Alongside his work and ministry, John found joy in music. He loved music, loved playing in music groups, and loved singing. He was also an avid reader, a man who clearly valued both worship and learning, and who carried those gifts throughout his life.

John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley Williams; by his father, John Truman Williams, Sr.; by his mother, Billie Maxine Williams; and by his sister, Sharon Dillon. As his loved ones remember him, they also remember the reunion of heaven and the blessed promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

He leaves behind dear family members who will continue to cherish his memory with love and gratitude. He is survived by his son, Michael Williams and Rebecca of Norman, Oklahoma; his brother, Rick Williams and Mary of Austin, Texas; and his granddaughters, Olivia Williams and Marilyn Williams. May they find comfort in the Lord’s presence, strength in His unfailing mercy, and peace in the treasured memory of John’s life and witness.

John Truman Williams, Jr. will be remembered as a man of faith, a servant of the church, a loving family man, and one who used his gifts in service to God and others. His life bears witness to the goodness of the Lord, and his memory will remain a blessing to all who knew him. As those who loved him commend him into the hands of Almighty God, they do so with sorrow, but not without hope, trusting in the resurrection and the everlasting promises of Christ.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Northeast Baptist Church in Norman, Oklahoma. Burial to follow at Green Hill Cemetery in Lindsay, Oklahoma under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home in Maysville, Oklahoma.
