Jeannie Carol (Pratt) Weaver Educator, musician, mother, grandmother, and woman of unwavering faith.
Born in Akron, Ohio, December 9, 1941, to Arlie and Fannie Hamilton Kennard, Jeannie joined her beloved brother, Samuel Kennard, in a home filled with love and music. Her early years were shaped by a deep devotion to faith and a passion for song—two constants that would guide her throughout her life.
After relocating to Lindsay, Oklahoma, Jeannie attended Lindsay High School, where she excelled in Band, FHA, and Glee club, performing in numerous vocal ensembles and vocal contests, laying the foundation for a lifetime of creativity and leadership. She married Bobby Gene Pratt, in 1958. During their 20 year marriage, they raised five beautiful children. Committed to lifelong learning, Jeannie earned her bachelor’s degree from University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma and later a master’s degree in education from East Central University. In 1979, she was honored as Oklahoma’s Conservation Teacher of the Year, a distinction that took her to Washington, D.C., in recognition of her dedication to environmental education. She was a member of OEA, NEA, OK Associations of both Gifted & Talented and Science Teachers, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a 4-H Club leader for 9 years.
In 1987, Jeannie married William “Bill” Weaver Sr., and together they built a life rooted in faith and fellowship. As active members of Southern Hills Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, Jeannie sang in the choir and helped host countless gatherings with cherished church friends. She and Bill shared a love of travel, often RVing to the Wichita Mountains, Florida, and Canada. Their marriage was filled with joy and companionship until Bill’s passing in July 2005.
Jeannie’s gift for public speaking blossomed through her involvement in Toastmasters, where she won numerous awards and contests. Her humorous speeches were always a highlight, bringing laughter and light to all who heard them. She sang with Sweet Adelines for a while and played piano for the Glory Gang – a group that provided music at assisted living centers and nursing homes. Under her direction, many of students will remember performing onstage in talent shows and skits, doing 4-H talks and demonstrations, science projects and invention fairs.
Even in retirement, Jeannie remained devoted to her faith. When health challenges emerged, she found comfort in daily devotionals and the old gospel hymns.
Jeannie was preceded in death by her son, Samuel Preston Pratt. She is survived by her daughters Bobbie Jean Cooper, Betty Jo Pratt, and Rebecca Beth Logan; her son Justin Kyle Pratt —all children of her first husband, Bob Pratt; and her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored and prayed for daily.
Jeannie leaves a legacy of love, wisdom, and song that will echo through generations.
