Janice Waleah Corlena (Norton) Jones passed away on October 26, 2026. She was born on July 10, 1945, and lived a life centered on faith, family, learning, and gratitude for the beauty of God’s creation.
Janice was a 1963 graduate of Butner High School in Cromwell, OK and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in education from ECU.
On November 6, 1965, Janice married Gary Jones and through this union three children were born: Bret, Kyle and Leslie. She taught junior high English in Maysville for two years before becoming a stay at home mother to support her family, a role that became one of the deepest joys of her life. Her love of learning and her gift for nurturing others remained evident throughout the years, reflected not only in her time as a teacher but also in the way she cared for those around her.
She lived her life for the Lord and stood in awe of God’s creations. That sense of wonder shaped many of the things she loved most. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Ireland and Angel Fire, and found great meaning in family genealogy, treasuring the stories and connections that linked one generation to the next. Some of her most treasured time was spent in front of the fire with Gary. Among her proudest accomplishments was her family, and she especially delighted in tea parties with her grandchildren, creating memories marked by warmth, laughter, and love.
Above all, Janice will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and faithful member of the church of Christ in Washington, OK. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Gary Jones. She also leaves behind her children, Bret Jones and Julie, Kyle Jones and Rulissa, and her daughter, Leslie Jones. Her family continued to be a great source of joy in her life through her grandchildren, Lauren Smith and Justin, Austin Jones, Drake Jones and Brooklyn, Emma Jones, Ethan Jones, Haley Jones, Val Jones, and Joyce Jones, as well as her great-grandchildren, Sawyer Smith and Ireland Jones. She is also survived by her sister, JaNelle Rutledge and Russ. Each of them carries forward the love, faith, and family devotion that defined her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Odis and Retha (Gooch) Norton and sister, Jana Sellon.
Janice’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her, in the family stories she preserved, in the places she cherished, and in the quiet, enduring example of a life faithfully lived.
