Herbert Leyon Edmunds was welcomed into the arms of Jesus in Norman, Oklahoma, on September 10, 2026. He was born in a logging camp near Yanush, Oklahoma on January 26, 1932, and lived a long life marked by faith, music, service, and devotion to his family.
Herbert served his country in both the United States Air Force (Korean Conflict Veteran) and the United States Navy, a reflection of his commitment and steady sense of duty. In his working life, he was a truck driver, and he genuinely enjoyed his work. Wherever the road took him, Herbert carried with him a spirit of ministry and encouragement. He preached his testimony at truck stops and in other places, and he especially liked to play and share his testimony at Truckers for Christ gatherings. His faith was not something he kept to himself, but something he expressed openly through word, song, and presence.
Outside of work, Herbert found joy in simple and meaningful pursuits. He liked to tinker with small motors and took pleasure in working with his hands. Music was especially important to him throughout his life. He enjoyed playing guitar (and harmonica) and singing with his grandchildren, and he loved sharing music with his family. Those moments of song and togetherness became part of the memories he leaves behind. He was also known for making the best breakfast, a gift that surely brought warmth and comfort to those gathered around his table.
Above all, Herbert’s life was centered on family. He is survived by: his beloved wife of 60 years, Evelyn Edmunds; his sons, Hank Edmunds and Tonya of Norman, Oklahoma and Jeff Edmunds of Winona, Minnesota, and by his daughters, Linda Parker and Klint of Foster, Oklahoma and Kimberly Edmunds of Lindsay, Oklahoma. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Mindy (Stacy), Deidre (Dewayne), Kyle (Cortney), Lauren, and Chloe; his great-grandchildren, Taylor (Taylor), Jaxson, Dani, Kasen, Kenzie, and Kyndall; and his great-great-grandchild, Willow Tate. His family will remember him for the faith he shared, the music he loved, and the time he spent with them across the generations.
He was preceded in death by: his father, Henry “Earl” Edmunds; his mother, Thelma Daisy (Edmunds) Russell; his son, John Edmunds; his brothers, E J Edmunds, Charles Edmunds, and Johnnie Edmunds; and his sister, Margaret Kirby.
Herbert will be remembered with love and gratitude by all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, in the songs he played, in the testimony he shared, and in the many lives touched by his kindness and faith.
I’ve finished my run and I’m 10-10 on the side. Keeping the coffee hot for Evie baby.
