George Edward Williamson of Norman was born on December 3, 1932 in Maysville, Oklahoma to Mr. And Mrs. Ralph Williamson. He passed from this life on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 in his home at the age of 90 years.
George graduated as the Salutatorian of his Senior class from Maysville High School in 1951. While in high school, he was a frequent singer on the Danny Williams radio show. On August 22, 1954 in Guymon, Oklahoma he married the love of his life, Mary Ann, and they made their home in Norman. He was a Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity member and graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Master’s Degree in Education Administration. While in college he played baseball for OU Sooners and football for ECU Tigers. George was a student at heart and knowledgeable in multiple areas. He began his career at Tinker AFB and then accepted a position at the FAA. He was responsible for the development of many computer systems for the FAA.
George was a quiet man with a huge presence. He was very active with Meals on Wheels for the Senior Citizens and served as their treasurer for years. He was very dedicated to the people on his route. George was a incredibly generous person who had a servant’s heart for people. In 1999 he was named “Volunteer of the Year” for the Junior League and United Way of Norman. He served as troop leader for son’s Cub Scout Troop and coach for his baseball team. George will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
His survivors include his wife of 68 years, Mary Ann; a daughter, Carla Hustead and husband Larry of Carrollton, Texas; son, Brian Williamson and wife Debora of Norman; grandchildren: Heather Rodolph and husband Jeromy, Lindsey Hustead, and Brandon Williamson; and great grandchildren: Bryce Rodolph and Emma Rodolph.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Beatrice Williamson.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, June 1, 2023 at the McFarlin United Methodist Church, Norman, OK with the Rev. Trey Witzel officiating. Burial will be held at 3:00 pm, Thursday, June 1, 2023 in the Maysville Cemetery, Maysville, OK under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, OK.
