Gary Ed Darling, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away at his home in Dibble, Oklahoma, on July 5, 2026. He was born on January 30, 1942, in Lehi, Utah, and grew up in Provo, Utah. Gary’s journey through life was marked by dedication to his family, a passion for his work, and an enduring love for the game of golf.

Throughout his long and fulfilling career, Gary distinguished himself as a talented golf course designer. Among his many professional accomplishments, he took particular pride in designing parts of Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, a legacy that will continue to inspire and challenge golfers for generations to come.

Golf was more than a profession for Gary; it was a lifelong pursuit and source of joy. Known to many as a great golfer, he enjoyed countless rounds, always savoring the camaraderie and the beauty of the courses he both played and designed.

At the heart of Gary's life was his deep love for his family. He cherished the moments spent with his loved ones, treasuring every opportunity to gather and share in each other's company.

Gary is survived by his devoted wife, Debby Darling; sons, David Darling and Kristin of Provo, Utah and Bo Hogan and Cami of Moore, Oklahoma; daughters: Lisa Andersson and Eric of Spanish Fork, Utah, Teresa Darling of Salt Lake City, Utah, Tammy Darling Alsobrook, of Georgia, Angie Clark and Paul David of Dibble, Oklahoma, Missy Madden and Dennis of Dibble, Oklahoma, and Tonya Keeler and Justin Harpole of Dibble, Oklahoma; 27 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Their lives are richer for his affection, guidance, and the memories they created together.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Edmore Darling; his mother, Margurite Darling; his brother, Bruce Darling; and his sister, Diane Darling.

Family and friends remember Gary as a man of integrity and warmth, whose dedication and love were unmistakable in all aspects of his life. His legacy endures not only through his professional achievements, but most importantly through the beloved family he leaves behind.

He will be dearly missed, fondly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 10, 2026, at Winans Funeral Home Chapel in Maysville, Oklahoma. Burial to follow at Dibble Cemetery in Dibble, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home in Maysville, Oklahoma. Words of comfort may be sent to the family on this website.
