In Loving Memory of Floyd Eugene Slay
Floyd Slay, 65, passed away peacefully at his lifelong home on the family farm along Route 3 in Lindsay, Oklahoma, on July 28, 2026. Born on March 18, 1961, in Lindsay, Oklahoma, Floyd spent his entire life in the community he loved, never straying far from the farm that shaped him and remained his home until his final day.
Floyd was a man who found happiness in life's simple pleasures. His roots ran deep in the Oklahoma soil, and there was nowhere he would rather be than on the farm he loved. It was there that he built a life filled with hard work, quiet contentment, and countless memories with those he loved.
For many years, Floyd dedicated his career to working on the roads of his community before retiring in 2012. Even after retirement, those roads remained close to his heart. He enjoyed driving the back roads with his niece, Reba, checking on his cows and often his brother's or a neighbor's as well and visiting with the people along the way. He never needed a destination; the journey itself was enough.
Floyd loved hunting and spending time with his brothers in Eastern Oklahoma, where many of his favorite memories were made. He cherished those days outdoors, enjoying the quiet, sharing stories, and simply being together. He also loved caring for his animals, and his dogs were faithful companions throughout his life. More than anything, however, Floyd loved his family and friends. He treasured every visit, every conversation, and every opportunity to spend time with the people who mattered most to him.
Though Floyd lived a quiet life, his kindness, loyalty, and steady presence left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He will be remembered for his generous heart, his love of the land, and his appreciation for the simple things that make life meaningful.
Floyd was welcomed into Heaven by his beloved parents, Ella Mae Slay and Willis Doyle Slay; his brother, Enoch Slay; his sisters, Lois Sumpter and Yvonda Reed; brother-in-law Don Martin; and his great-nephew, Liam Phillip Harrison; and countless other family members and dear friends who had gone before him.
He is survived by his loving family: sister Pat Martin, sister-in-law Barbara Slay, brother Buddy Slay and wife Diane, and brother Boyd Slay and wife Sheila, whose lives were forever enriched by his love, guidance, and quiet strength. They, along with many dear friends and a whole host of nieces and nephews, will cherish his memory always.
A celebration of Floyd's life will be held Monday, August 3rd at 2 pm at Lindsay Hills Church: 1505 NW 4th Street, Lindsay, OK, 73052. As family and friends gather to remember him, they will honor a man whose greatest joys were found not in extraordinary moments, but in the everyday blessings of family, faithful dogs, open roads, and the farm he always called home.
Though he has left this earthly life, the legacy of Floyd's kindness, humility, and unwavering love for his family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
