Eddie Jerrel (Jerry) Lacy

Eddie Jerrel (Jerry) Lacy was born on May 31, 1937 to Inez and Harvey Lacy in the small west Texas town of Post. He entered into the gates of heaven on February 7, 2026.

Jerry lived a very humble life. He was raised by hard-working, loving parents. His mother instilled in him a strong foundation of Christ and church. They would walk to a neighbor’s house every Sunday to catch a ride to town to go to church. Jerry loved to write about his early life and all those that read his writings enjoyed them. He graduated from Loop High School with a class of 8 and enjoyed playing football and pole vaulting. Upon graduation, Jerry went to work in the oilfield for Western Company in Seagraves, Texas, where he worked for 18 years.

Jerry met his “Mary” in September of 1958 and they were married six months later on Mary’s birthday, March 14, 1959. They started their life together in Seagraves, Texas. They had their first daughter, Mary Kathryn on February 9, 1960. The oilfield kept them moving, living in Texas, New Mexico, Kansas and Arkansas, where their second daughter, Lauri Lyn was born on October 1, 1962. They finally got transferred to Enid, Oklahoma, now living in five states, and two of them twice in 5 years. Jerry worked around Lindsay and had always heard that Lindsay had a great school system and he wanted his girls to go there. He finally got a transfer in November of 1966 and Lindsay became their forever home. Jerry continued working for Western Company until 1973, when he and Mary purchased Byrdell’s Flowers and he went from having a black, greasy thumb to having a dirty green thumb. Jerry, along with Mary, attended a month long floral school in Denver, Colorado to help him learn the art of floristry. Jerry became a masterful florist, landscaper and grower. He was well-known around the area for his beautiful poinsettias that he grew in their greenhouse. They remained on Main Street for 9 years and then built a new building and moved their business in 1982. Jerry designed this building specifically for a floral business with unique features. They remained in the building until their retirement in 2004.

Jerry loved the outdoors. He was always in awe of God’s creations. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman. The family spent many weekends camping at different lakes and farm ponds. For several years, they would spend a week in Colorado, where he would hike for miles to flyfish a special place. They traveled to Washington and the Pacific Rim taking two of their granddaughters, Kali and Paige, with them. They cruised to Hawaii and the Caribbean with good friends, Jerry and Darleen Smith. After retirement, the four of them drove an RV to Alaska and spent 3 months. For the past several years, Lauri and Kathi were blessed to be able to take them to Ashville, North Carolina, Scottsdale, Arizona twice and Florida five times. Every trip was an adventure and precious to them all.

Jerry held a deep devotion to the Baptist Church, in which he was raised. He has taught Sunday School on and off for 43 years and at the time of his death, was still teaching. He was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lindsay for 37 years, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Director, Deacon and in the Men’s Ministry. God led him to join Banner Baptist Church in 2004, where he served as Sunday School teacher and Deacon. He loved serving the Lord and his church in any capacity.

Jerry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved his family unconditionally and was so proud of all their accomplishments. Jerry instilled in his girls the value of an education. He wanted them to be able to be independent and always said, “No one could ever take your education away from you.” The family was blessed to all live in Lindsay area. Get togethers were always joyous and memorable. He and Mary were famous for their homemade ice cream every 4th of July. The family had their trials and tribulations but never argued or fought among themselves. He was proud that they were a “No Drama” family.

The most valuable thing in his life was “His Mary,” whom he treated like a queen, thinking no one could take care of her as well as he did. He and Mary worked faithfully and lovingly together for 31 years and have sat side by side, holding hands, ever since. Their 67 year marriage is an inspiration to all. Their hearts will always be intertwined.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Mary. Daughters, Kathi Shipley, Lauri Howell and son-in-law, Leslie.
