Bobbie Jean Norton

January 5, 1932 — February 25, 2023

Bobbie Jean Hensley-Slater-Norton was born just north of Maysville, the eighth of eleven children, on January 5, 1932 to her parents James Edmon (Jim) Moore and Bertha (Rose) Moore and entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior February 25, 2023 at the age of 91.

As a youngster she and her siblings worked on the family farm and attended several rural schools in the area around Maysville. As a young woman, she worked as a caregiver, and it was at that time she met and married Clyde Hensley, a widower with four young children. They made their home in the Maysville area and one daughter was born to this union. She was a homemaker, helped with the farm, took in ironing and babysat until her husband’s illness forced her to work outside the home where she worked for Storm Plastics and at a sewing factory. Bobbie and Clyde had 19 years together.

After Clyde’s passing, Bobbie met a bachelor and cowboy, Harry Slater from Stilwell, OK. They were married in 1975 and made their home in Pauls Valley, where she worked as a Dietician at the Pauls Valley General Hospital until she retired. Harry, too, passed after an extended illness, leaving her a widow again.

Bobbie met and married Louis Norton in 1993. They made their home in Maysville, where they enjoyed cooking, gardening, traveling and spent many hours on wood-working projects together. They had 29 years together until his passing, just three weeks before her own.

She was a devoted wife and mother and was instrumental in leading all three men to salvation, as well as her children, and was a faithful member of Unity Missionary Baptist Church.  Family and friends will miss her strength, her sweet spirit, as well as her sense of humor and antics.

Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents Jim and Bertha Moore; husbands Clyde Hensley, Harry Slater, and Louis Norton; brothers Ray, Ralph, Howard, Homer and Billy Moore; sisters Cordy Moore, Ida Hogue, and Joyce Wood; daughter Sylvia Hansen; son Dale Hensley; and grandson Eddie Moore.

Survivors include one sister, Clara and husband Bill Smith of Pauls Valley; one brother, Junior and wife Virginia Moore of Blanchard; sisters-in-law, Larettia Hale of Duncan and Zorene Moore of Whitebead; son Don and wife Patty Hensley of Elmore City; son Roger and wife Delories Hensley of Edmond; daughter Becky and husband Woodie Hill of Maysville; seven additional grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
