Bertha Lee McKee

Bertha Lee “Nana” McKee of Ardmore, formerly of Lindsay was born on May 6, 1937 in Grandfield, Oklahoma to H. L. And Elsie (Barfield) Stevens. She passed from this life on Monday, December 30, 2019 in Ardmore, Oklahoma.

Bertha grew up in Grandfield where she graduated from Grandfield High School in 1955 as class valedictorian. She met Desie Adron McKee and they dated 2 weeks before getting married on October 1, 1955 in Lawton. They made their home together in Lindsay where she worked as a cook at the Ranch House and a private care provider for individuals. In 2017 Bertha moved to Ardmore to live with one of her daughters. She loved her family and watching Walker Texas Ranger on television. She enjoyed sewing, reading, baking birthday and wedding cakes, and making fruit salad, her speciality. Bertha thought she should take care of everyone and did an excellent job of doing so. She was a member of the Cox City Baptist Church and the Pikes Peak Home Extension Club where she served as secretary. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughters: Peggy Hassler and husband Doyle of Lindsay; Lois Crawford, Rebecca McCoy, and Captola Lyons and husband Hank all of Ardmore.
Sisters: Dora Jones and husband Doc of Frederick, Rose Rector of Oklahoma City, and Linda Wilson of Neosho, Missouri.
A brother, Jerry Stevens of Waurika.
13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, H. L. and Elsie Stevens; husband, Desie McKee; a daughter, Deedee Gisler; grandson, Brandon Desie McCoy; sister, Daisey Howard; and brothers, Roy Stevens and his wife Velma, Howard Stevens, and Jimmy Stevens.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 2, 2020 at Cox City Baptist Church with Bro. Finis Lee officiating. Burial will be in the Bradley Cemetery under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, OK. Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.winansfuneralhome.com
