Barbara Lea Akins

Barbara Lea Akins, born on September 28, 1948, in Pierce City, Missouri, passed away peacefully at her home in Lindsay, Oklahoma, on April 30, 2026. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose warm spirit touched the lives of many.

A 1966 high school graduate, Barbara dedicated many years of her career working as a supervisor at Peterson's chicken plant, where she was known for her strong work ethic and leadership. However, it was her family who remained her proudest accomplishment throughout her life.

Throughout her life, Barbara found joy in the simple pleasures. In her earlier years, she enjoyed mushroom hunting, a pastime that connected her closely to the outdoors. More recently she enjoyed spending time at the senior citizens center, where she would share meals and socialize. Her love of games brought her happiness through playing bingo and visits to the casino. Fishing was another favorite pastime that gave her peace and contentment.

Barbara had a special fondness for going out to breakfast, a simple pleasure that often brought her quality time with loved ones. Above all, she treasured the moments spent with her family, holding these times close to her heart.

Her passing leaves a profound sense of loss, but her memory lives on in the hearts of her family and friends. Barbara will be remembered with respect and affection for the kindness she showed, the strength she exhibited, and the love she shared generously throughout her life.

Barbara is survived by her cherished grandchildren: Richard Akins, Cheyenne Childers, Cody Akins, Dominic Ciampoli, and Isabella Ciampoli, as well as her great-grandchildren: ShyLee Childers, Reagan Akins, Rowdy Childers, Kierstyn Childers, Maverick Akins, Jeremiah Childers, and Alieyah Akins. She also leaves behind her daughter-in-law, Belenda Akins.

Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Lloyd and Frances Tate; her husband, Richard Akins; her son, Brian Akins; and her daughter, Brenda Ciampoli.

Private family services are pending at this time. Cremation is under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home in Maysville, Oklahoma. Words of comfort can be sent to the family at: www.winansfuneralhome.com
