Letha Maude Winchester

Letha Maude Winchester, 101 of Purcell, formerly of Maysville, was born on May 4, 1915 in Boswell, Oklahoma to G. W. and Georgia (Huckaby) Herriage. She passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at her home in Purcell. Maude married William A. Winchester on June 10, 1933 in Elmore City and they made their home along Rush Creek where they raised their family. She was a homemaker who loved her family and spending time with them. Maude enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, and traveling, especially the trip she took to Israel. She and her sister, Nettie Kittrell enjoyed each other’s company and going places together, especially the Gary England Twister Shows which gained them the notoriety as the “Twister Sisters”. Her faith was extremely important to her and she loved her church, the Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church. Maude will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Survivors include her sons: Jimmy Winchester and wife Linda of Dickson, Harold Winchester and wife Linda of Blanchard, Curtis Winchester and wife Margaret of Maysville, Larry Winchester and wife Kathy of Marietta, and Jerry Winchester and wife Karen of Marietta. 15 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and two more on the way. Maude was preceded in death by her parents, G. W. And George Herriage; husband, William Winchester; a daughter, Doris Gammill; sister, Nettie Kittrell; brothers, Cecil, Carl, George, and Gene Herriage; and grandsons, Mike Winchester, Steven Winchester, and Brian Winchester. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 pm, Friday, April 21, 2017 at the Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church, Purcell. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church, Purcell, OK with Bro. Mike Hughes and Elder Mike Ivey officiating. Burial will be in the Maysville Cemetery under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, OK. Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.winansfuneralhome.com
