Richard "Buddy" Ellithorp

Richard Leroy “Buddy” Ellithorp of Alex was born on March 20, 1935 in Lindsay, Oklahoma to Verley William “Dee” Ellithorp and Mammie Francis (Adams) Ellithorp. He passed away at the age of 81 years on Friday, October 28, 2016 at the Lindsay Municipal Hospital after an automobile accident. Buddy grew up in the Lindsay area, where he attended Hughes School. He married Helen Ann Myrko and five children were born to this union. In 1960 he moved from Paoli to Alex. During his lifetime, he worked as a mechanic for the Ford Motor Company in Lindsay, as a pumper for Union 76, an oilfield roughneck, and was a farmer. Buddy later married Katherine “Kate” (Brimberry) Scott who preceded him in death. Most recently Buddy had married Lou Ellen (Winnard) McGaha. He loved spending time with his family and watching the children and grandchildren play basketball and baseball. Buddy enjoyed gardening, tinkering with his tractors, listening to country and western music and dancing. He was a member of the Alex Southern Baptist Chapel. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. His survivors include his wife, Lou Ellen of the home in Alex. Sons: Gene Ellithorp and wife, Sandi of Ninnekah and Richard Ellithorp, Jr. and wife, Marcana of Mt. Pleasant, Texas. Daughters: Julie Brooksher of Alex; Debbie Allison of Alex; and Penny Hitt and husband, Mike of Whitesboro, Texas. A sister, Florene Wenzel of Maysville. 10 grandchildren: April Lagaly (Travis), Genefer Ellithorp, Christy Inouye (Matt), Gavin Allison ( Naomi Webster), Brian Ellithorp (Becky), Derek Layman (Jessica), Breann Dowdle (Dusty), Bridget Layman (Jayson Handshy), Steven Brooksher ( Kayla Otey) and Paden Layman (Kayla). 3 step-grandchildren: Juli Voigt (Michael), Lori Travinski (Dean) and Krista Hitt. 12 great grandchildren: Macey, Grant and Samantha Lagaly, Lexi Seville, Brayden Layman, Brynton Handshy, Jayla, Jaxon and Lilly Dowdle, Maddux and Brooklyn Inouye and Bralan Layman. and 9 step-great grandchildren: Maddison Brasher (Scott), Kelyn Handshy, Jett Layman, Matthew, Jacob and Tyler Voigt. Austin, Logan and Wyatt Travinski. Stepsons: David & wife Crystal McGaha of Dibble and Terry McGaha of Dibble. Stepdaughters: Donna & Bob Nowak of Camarillo, California and Janie & Richard Garner of Prague, Oklahoma. Also 15 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Dee Ellithorp and Mammie Ellithorp Childress; wife Katherine; sisters, Willie Mae Brown, Maurine Rausch, and June Rausch; and sons-in-law, Roy Brooksher, Jr. and Steve Allison. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at the Alex Southern Baptist Chapel with Bro. Tim Carr officiating. Burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, OK. Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.winansfuneralhome.com
