Johnny David Staley

May 20, 1936 — June 19, 2014

Johnny David Staley,78, was born May 20, 1936 in Stratford, Oklahoma to J.W and Nellie Willis Staley. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, June 19, 2014 in Davis, Oklahoma. Johnny was 1 of 13 children. His brothers and sisters respected him for the strong will that he possessed from an early age. The siblings endured many hardships during their upbringing, which brought about a life-long bond and made family very important to Johnny and his siblings. Johnny attended Maysville Schools, but helped his father and brothers on the family farm whenever necessary. Johnny served in the Navy from age 20-23 and upon completion of his military service was introduced to Mary Sue Pierce, who worked with his sister Anita. Johnny and Mary Sue married on May 6, 1960 and temporarily lived in Maysville before establishing their permanent home in Euless, Texas, where Johnny was employed by General Motors. While living in Euless they would welcome two daughters into their family. Sherrie came first and Ginger followed a little over 5 years later. As the strong-minded and determined among us often do, Johnny had a dream and it was to be his own boss. And so it was, the family moved to Lindsay and Johnny began to build his own home improvement business, which he coined Johnny’s Home Improvements. He was gifted in his craft and was very successful in business. In his spare time, Johnny enjoyed gardening, farming and raising coon-hounds. Johnny enjoyed retirement for a few years before he suffered a massive stroke in May, 2009. Although he was never quite the same after that event, nurses would tell the family that his savvy mechanical mind was still obviously at work, because he would attempt to take their drug cart apart bolt by bolt. Johnny was proceded in death by his parents and siblings Earnesteen Ince, J.W. “Jay” Staley, W.J. “Junior” Staley, Jesse Staley and Anita Prince. Johnny is survived by his wife Mary Sue, of the home; daughters Sherrie Smith of Edmond, OK; Ginger Bowen of Lindsay; Grandson Jacob Bowen of Oklahoma City; Granddaughter Sarah Bowen of Lindsay; siblings Irene Spruill of Euless, Texas; Quanah Lee Gower of Maysville; Dois Staley of Keeter,Texas; Leona Caves of Norman; Jane Perry of Anderson, Indiana; Margie Deal of Duncan; Nellie Elroy of Marlow. Johnny also leaves behind a large host of nieces and nephews. Aside from those he loved, Johnny leaves behind a legacy of all the homes, churches and businesses which stand as a reminder that he was here, he was a gifted artist in his trade and the world is lovelier for it. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, June 23, 2014 at the Maysville Cemetery with Rev. Bill Love officiating. Burial is under the direction of John Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, Oklahoma. Condolences can be sent to the family at ww.winansfuneralhom.com
