Ethel Lucille Brooksher

Ethel Lucille Brooksher of Maysville passed from this life on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at her home in Maysville at the age of 91 years. She was born on May 2, 1922 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Charley and Emily (Lummer) Blackwood. Ethel attended Chilocco Indian School and graduated May 28, 1941. She married Raymond Brooksher on September 18, 1941 in Sulphur. They moved to Maysville in 1949 and operated the Maysville Motel from 1955 to 1985 when it closed. Ethel helped Raymond farming and ranching. They also raised and raced Quarter Horses and were known for their excellent showings at Sallisaw and their horse, Passam Choice, place 3rd in the Kansas Futurity at Ruidoso Downs in New Mexico. Ethel enjoyed dancing with her son, Larry at the Senior Citizens Dances, cooking, and going to horse races. She was a member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, the Chickasaw Tribe, and the Senior Citizens Center in Purcell. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. Her survivors include her sons: Larry Brooksher of Maysville; and Wesley Brooksher and wife Jandra of Maysville. Daughters: Fuchsia Dickson of Oklahoma City; and Norma Wilkerson of Wheatland. 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and another one due in December. Many nieces and nephews And other relatives and friends. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond in 1996; and a son, Carroll in 2007; 3 brothers and 1 sister; and 6 half-brothers and 8 half-sisters. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, August 24, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Maysville with Rev. Eddie Wollenberg and Rev. Jim Price officiating. Burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery under the direction of John Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, OK. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.winansfuneralhome.com
