James Madison Morphew, Jr.

James Madison Morphew, Jr. of Purcell passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Purcell, Oklahoma at the age of 85 years. He was born on August 28, 1927 at Maud, Oklahoma to James Madison Morphew, Sr. and Essie (Christian) Morphew. While growing up James attended school at Story and Maysville. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II as a Fireman First at Camp Pacific of Atlantic in San Diego, California. He married Betty Jo Shelton on March 24, 1950 in Wichita Falls, Texas. James lived most of his life in the Purcell area. He owned the John Deere Dealership in Purcell, a liquor store in Purcell, worked as a car salesman, and was a farmer. He enjoyed fishing, piddling, woodworking, gardening, and loved to drive his tractor. James will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends. His survivors include a son, Curtis Morphew and wife Kim of Yukon. Daughters: Debbie Green of Carney; Vicky Stover and husband Mike of Wanette; and Elizabeth Morphew and husband Steve of Paoli. A brother, Phillip Morphew and wife Ruth of Eufaula. Sister, Deloris Hendrix and husband Joe of Pauls Valley. 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchildren. And a host of other relatives and friends. James was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Betty in 1986. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Maysville, OK with Rev. Brian Black and Joe Hendrix officiating. Burial will be in the Purdy Cemetery under the direction of John Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, OK. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.winansfuneralhome.com
