Dennis Logan Purkhiser

Dennis Logan Purkhiser passed away July 5, 2012 at his home in Pauls Valley and the age of 84 years. He was born July 10, 1927 in Healdton, Oklahoma to George and Janie (Acox) Purkhiser. Dennis married Mary Marrs on November 25, 1951 in Fresno, California and she preceded him in death March 23, 2010. He played football at Zaine’s. Dennis begin working on the police force in California before moving to Oklahoma in 1971 and later settled in Maysville in 1985. He worked for 32 years in police work serving the city of Jones, and then was the police chief in Healdton, and also worked in Wilson, Maysville, and Wynnewood. While living in Jones and Healdton, he taught Sunday School at his church. Dennis was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Maysville where he loved to sing his favorite song, “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His survivors include his son, Gary Purkhiser of Morena Valley, California. A step-son, Jack Atnip of Morgan Hill, California. And a step-daughter, Carol Carpena and husband, Ted of Oregon. Brother, Samuel Purkhiser of Crosby, Texas. 12 Grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Dennis was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; a brother, Cleo Martin; and sisters, Ruby Golson, Geneva Hawkins, Georgie Hantis, and Berthy Garrison. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, July 9, 2012 at the First Assembly of God Church, Maysville, OK with Rev. Billy Davenport officiating. Burial will be in the Maysville Cemetery under the direction of John Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, OK. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.winansfuneralhome.com
