Shirley W. Clagg

March 13, 1925 — March 16, 2012

Shirley Wanda Clagg was born March 13, 1925 near Lindsay, Oklahoma to W. T. “Dink” and Ruby Hardage Jackson. She passed away Friday, March 16, 2012 at the Norman Regional Hospital at the age of 87 years and 3 days. Shirley Clagg has lived in the Maysville area since 1953, coming here from Purcell. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior as a young girl at Dare Baptist Church. She graduated from Dibble High School in 1943 and on October 17 of that same year married David Clagg. David was in the Army Air Corps and they lived in Enid until he was shipped overseas the next year and Shirley worked at Tinker Field during the time that David was gone. When David got out of the Army, he was in the International Harvester farm equipment business in Purcell and relocated to Maysville in 1953. Shirley was an excellent seamstress, who kept her girls in pretty dresses. She was a quilter, did needle point, an excellent cook, and was very active in W.M.U of the First Baptist Church of Maysville. Every summer she would bring children from the Baptist Children’s Home to her home and would teach them, right along with her girls, to cook, sew, and enjoy the good things of life. Shirley played piano and her favorites were “Under The Double Eagle”and “The Missouri Waltz”. One of 5 sisters, they all would go to Gospel singings and were known as the “Singing Five”. Shirley was also an avid reader and certainly enjoyed all of those large family get-togethers at the family home. Shirley and David were a great team in all they would do, and she will be missed not only by her family, but by the First Baptist Church family and the many friends made throughout her lifetime. Survivors: Her husband of 68 years, David Clagg of the home. 4 Children: Sherry Springfield and husband Walt of Choctaw, Oklahoma; Sheryl Kennedy and husband Tony of Edmond, Oklahoma; Keith Clagg and wife Janice of Maysville; and Sonya Brooks and husband Mike of Maysville. 11 Grandchildren: Amy Sikes and husband Tim of Choctaw; Leslie Hollis and husband Barry of Decatur, Texas; Tracey Clagg and wife Kimberly of Maysville; Stewart Kennedy and wife Casey of Edmond; Robyn Reid and husband David of Choctaw; Shelby Dutton and husband Randy of Glenpool, Oklahoma; Kecia Burrows and husband Doug of Soldotna, Alaska; Misty McCurtain and husband Kyle of Maysville; Taima Beam and husband Paul of Tipton, Oklahoma; Erin Austin and husband Jon of Edmond; Trenton Brooks and wife Kelsey of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; and by 27 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 Sisters: Donna Ladd and husband Elwood of Blanchard and Patsy Urban of Denton, Texas and brother-in-law Melvin Murray of Maysville. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents W.T. and Ruby Jackson and sisters, Tommy Hobson and Joan Murray. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the First Baptist Church Activity Center, PO Box 745, Maysville, Oklahoma 73057.
