E. G. Beckham, Jr.

September 9, 1931 — August 6, 2011

E. G. Beckham, Jr. was born on September 9, 1931 in San Saba County, Texas to Ewell Gregg and Glen Moore “Parker” Beckham. He was raised in the Elm Grove community in central Texas. He lost his mother at age eight. When he was 12 years old he moved with his dad and younger sister to eastern Cleveland County in Oklahoma. He continued to travel to Texas and stay with family until he was 16 years old at which time the family relocated to California. He and his father worked on a large corporate farm and ranch. He later struck out on his own to cowboy for large ranches in Arizona, California, and other places along on the west coast. E. G. was drafted into the army at the age of 19 and served in Korea for two years. After leaving the military he moved back to Oklahoma and married Yvonne Stewart in 1955 and from this union came his three children, Lenore, James, and Rebecca. After working in the oilfield, which required relocating frequently which was difficult for a family with small children, he took a job as a welder at Beaver Tool in Maysville in the summer of 1964. He continued his career as a welder but never lost his love of the land and livestock. E. G. semi-retired about 15 years ago, but continued to work along side his son on the farm. He loved to visit with family and friends, play moon, and listen to bluegrass. E. G. loved history, reading, and genealogy. He was a member of the American Legion Post #194 in Maysville, Oklahoma where he volunteered with his fellow veterans. E. G. left this life for a better one on Saturday, August 6th, 2011 at Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City. He was preceded in death by his parents, older sister Gladys, and brother Sherwood. He is survived by his sister Mary Bob McKiddy of Lexington, OK; his three children, Lenore and husband Jeff of Goldsby; James and wife Brenda of Maysville, and Rebecca and husband Kevan of Maysville. He was known as “Pa” to his seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was blessed to have many other friends, neighbors, and relatives who made his life complete. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Maysville with Rev. Tim Carr and Rev. Steve Spangler officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of John Williams of Winans Funeral Home of Maysville, OK. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.winansfuneralhome.com
