Tommy Lee Lawson

Tommy Lee Lawson was born June 2, 1940 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Lee Martin and Addie Mae Suggs Lawson. He died Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at Pauls Valley General Hospital at the age of 69 years. Tommy attended Maysville Schools graduating here in 1958. Before retiring he had worked as an Instructor at the FAA Center in Oklahoma City. Tommy also worked as an inspector for ASRC Company as a contractor for the government checking buildings to make sure they would accommodate backup generators for Homeland Security. After Hurricane Katrina struck the United States, Tommy worked setting up backup generators at airports. He served his country in the U. S. Army, the Marine Corp. Reserves, and as a Staff Sergeant in the Air National Guard. Tommy had worked as a referee for High School and Junior College basketball, football, and baseball. On July 2, 1989 he married Patty Lewis at the First United Methodist Church in Maysville. Tommy was a 32degree Mason at the Pauls Valley and Guthrie Masonic Lodges. He started his Shriner activity in 1985, driving children to the Shriner’s Children Hospital, and made them wooden toys to give them after their doctors appointments. Tommy said “I have a special place in my heart for less fortunate kids and I want to bring them home better than they were when they went.” He also drove fire trucks for King Pens to ride. Tommy will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and the many children whose lives he touched over the years. Survivors include his wife, Patty Lawson of the home in Maysville Daughters: Cynthia Kae Lawson-Stewart and her husband, Robert Ray of Maysville; Shawn Rae Lawson-Sefel and her husband, James of Chickasha Step-daughters: Sherry Brown of Maysville; Kathy Caldwell and her husband, Frank of Kingston Brother, Michael John Lawson and Quendalyn of Lindsay Brother-in-law, Ronnie Lewis and his wife, Penny Lewis of Blanchard Sister-in-law, Donna Dover and her husband Gene of Maysville 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and one on the way. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, September 11, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Maysville. Rev. Ed Dexter will officiate with burial in the Antioch Cemetery under the direction of John Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, OK.
