Roger Mays

Roger Mays, 65, of Maysville passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at the Veteran’s Center in Norman. He was born October 24, 1944 at Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Wilburn Leonard and Mary Sue (Brandon) Mays. Roger lived in the Maysville area most of his life. He served his country for two years during the Vietnam War on the Germany support team. He worked with his dad in the concrete statuary business during the week and on weekends, he played music. Roger became a musician at the age of 14, he could play a keyboard and any stringed instrument except the fiddle. Roger organized his own bands playing with a lot of local musicians. He played music at the Diamond Ball Room, the Golden Nugget and even had the opportunity to play some tunes with Willie Nelson, Conway Twitty, Bobby Barnett, and Wayne Kemp. Roger was affiliated with the Baptist Church. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his sons: Mark Norman and wife Tammy of Pauls Valley and Brian Mays of Moore. Daughters: Lisa Kokinda of LasVegas, Nevada and Brandi Mays of Washington. Brothers: Jeff Mays of Oklahoma City and Jural Mays of Maysville 6 grandchildren: Julie Selman, Jon-Mark and Paige Norman, Blake Mays, Alexandra and Avery Kokinda and many other relatives and friends Roger was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Danny Mays; and a half-sister, Carol Selman. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, August 30, 2010 at the Winans Funeral Home Chapel, Maysville, Oklahoma with Rev. Danny Gamble officiating. Burial will be in the Maysville Cemetery under the direction of John Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, Oklahoma. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.winansfuneralhome.com
