Joseph "Buck" Loy Gibbons

Joseph Loy “Buck” Gibbons Born: July 3, 1925, at Heavener, Oklahoma to Joseph Layfette and Bertha Harris Gibbons. Died: April 24, 2009 at the Norman Veterans Center. Age: 83 Buck Gibbons was raised in LeFlore County and attended school there. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII and of the U.S. Air Force during Korea. On May 13, 1946 in Minden, Nevada, he married Lucille Turnage of Mena, Arkansas. The family lived in California for a number of years where Buck worked for Continental Oil Co. that is now Conoco-Phillips, working his way up to Assistant Superintendent before retiring in 1979. Upon retirement he and Lucille moved to Maysville, north of town and later moved into town at their current residence. Buck loved to fish and making a garden and being with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Maysville American Legion and of the Unity Baptist Church. He will certainly be missed by his family and great number of friends made throughout the years. Survivors: His wife of 62 years, Lucille of the home in Maysville 2 Sons: James Loy Gibbons and wife, Christine of Atascadero, California and Joe Larry Gibbons of Los Banos, California. 3 Daughters: Mildred Daly of Norman, Oklahoma, Judy Lynn Fernandes of Santa Maria, California, and Donna Pryor and husband, Danny of Maysville 2 Sisters: Mildred Lumley of Rocky Mountain, North Carolina and Carolyn Ann Gibbons of Modesto, California. 14 Grandchildren and 30 Great-Grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. ******Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 10:00 am at the Winans Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randy Rhea and Rev. Allen Carroll officiating with burial in the Maysville Cemetery under the direction of John Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville.
